Thank you! I didn’t learn to ride until I was 55, but made it my lifetime adventure. In the beginning I took lessons and a year later bought a super horse that is so very well suited for me. He was a school master, and I was determined to meet his show level. He’s a dark bay Thoroughbred and an all around horse — he’s muscled up, trails in packs, loves to jump, and has the best of manners — he just turned 20. He’s loving and kind and has many girlfriends. Due to poor winter feeding and poor hay and other conditions over the last 2 years, I moved him away. Eddy and I are in a great place now! He’s never sad, very healthy, lively and for $100 less per month board, now I have a trainer/instructor who is very classical and “rocks” — like you! How refreshing! On the problematic side, Eddy doesn’t like to use his “behind” if he can get away with it — so tracking up some days is a struggle. Going left can wear me out, but it’s coming together. We’re showing in schooling shows and doing well. It’s cooler now in the Northeast and lots of time to practice, enter events almost ’til Christmas. Lots of fun events at local barns — bareback dollar, egg and spoon, just for fun and clinics. Haven’t taken Eddy in a pond yet. Thank you, Jane for all you do! Eddy has his own web site, but it’s old, and I need to update it. Will do. Your tips help keep me on-track!

What I wouldn’t do to have one week exclusively as Jane’s student! Loved horses since my first pony ride at 4; I’m 49 now and have never owned my own horse — an unfulfilled life long dream that I’m going to accomplish soon. (Also, a very difficult path to learn through and grow as a rider, in some ways.) I’ve be taking lessons here and there, on and off for 30 years (mostly off) — and I have many equine & riding goals to fulfill. I never thought I could gain access to a world class equestrian, extraordinary trainer and talented coach such as Jane, but I have a gut feeling that just connecting to Jane’s website and instructional tools has set me on the right path to my dreams. God bless her for spreading her wings over those of us willing to learn… especially we “hacking horseless orphans.”

Hello Jane and I would like to pass along my compliments for the great, clear detail in the way that you convey the information to a rider. It is clear that you are passionate about passing on your experience for the benefit of the both the horse and the rider and that your knowledge base is both accurate and is delivered with confidence which can be transmitted to the rider simply by your tone and choice of words and phrases. I would like to say THankyou ! for simplifying what is a complex series of movements to be able to perform when you know what you want but are needing the movements broken down into frames so that one can assimilate them into practical riding. I hope to attend a clinic with you at some point but in the meantime your voice and videos are a great comfort sincerely Julie Wright aspiring dressage rider and student of the Horse

I really would like to know how to get involved in the Equisense / Eqraining or where I could take lessons on it. It would be a great system to bring to our state of Minnesota. I watched your video, but do not see how or where one could get access to it and get the training.
    Thanks, Kim

    Hi Kim,
I’m in the process of getting that info up on my site at http://www.eqtrained.com

    Thanks for your interest!

    Hi Jane,

I bought your book many years ago, “That Winning Feeling”, and out of all the books on riding and literature novels I possess, this book has remained at the front of my book shelf. I got it when that feeling of accomplishment and success after every ride started to go away because of stress I felt and anxiety from other riders around me that didn’t like me. So, I lowered myself to them and let the fun slowly slip away. The passion I have for riding is still very strong and my love for horses will never die, but I am dying to feel that sense of freedom, love, and accomplishment after every ride that I used to feel. Even if it was challenging, I used to be proud of myself. Not anymore so much, everything you have to say in your book and in your blog is good stuff. I just really hope when I get my horse into training and I can start riding him and jumping again that something in me will snap and I will ride with passion again, where nothing feared or phased me. Where I believed I could jump anything or ride just as good as any rider, because when I believed I could do that, I ACTUALLY DID!! I pictured it in my mind that I was just as good if not better than the girls who got to travel to shows because I was one with the horse. That’s all that matters. I know when I can get that winning feeling back, I can achieve great things. Thank you so much for being one of the passionate and enlightening people in the business who don’t act like riding is just based off of skill and money, it’s from the heart.

  12. admin says:

Thank you so much Nina. You can get that feeling back! Just keep on keeping on!!

  13. Nina King says:

I forgot to say, you are the best teacher I never had. I hope to see you in a clinic someday, I’m not sure where you travel to but please come to Seattle if that’s not one of your stops already. I hope to teach like you someday. Thanks again!!

Dear Jane I recently ordered “How to Canter the Correct Lead” and watched it several times prior to riding my pretty pony and it was remarkable the difference in our canter when I knew how to best set her up for proper transition. Thank you so much for a direct and simple explanation to help me communicate and ride in harmony! I appreciate you and your demonstrations more than words can express–thank you so much. Sincerely Trish Tally

Thanks so much for your fantastic advice. The riding situation I’m in is a particularly strange one. I usually get to have a riding lesson about every 3 months (sometimes more!), with no riding in between. My instructor is continuously amazed at how it seems like I’ve been in the saddle, when in fact, I haven’t been. My secret is truly your site. You make all of your tips and advice easy to understand, as well as easy to execute. Thank you so much for helping me become a better rider!

  27. admin says:

    My pleasure, Jackie! Enjoy!!

    Jane,
I have been trying to find a place to tell you how meaningful your Motivational newsletters are from Moshi and Indy, Everytime and I do mean everytime a particular subject is mentioned it applies to me at that moment. Thank you for all the riding videos and the insight in give to all of us. I know you have touch hundreds of people.

  29. admin says:

    Thanks you SO much!

  30. April Hall says:

    Hi Jane,

I recently found your site and I love it! I read through the Moshi and Indy entries yesterday and Annie’s story had me in tears. I tear up now just thinking about it. One of my horses is a 27 year old gelding. He’s Navicular, arthritic, a hard-keeper and just plain ornery (although I kind of like that ornery part!). He’s been comfortable with the corrective shoeing, his senior cocktail of supplements and chiropractic adjustments but every time he comes up a little off, my mind immediately goes to the “is this it?” line of thinking and I fall apart. I can’t bear the thought of losing him or having to make … the decision. Thank you for sharing Annie’s story. It helps ease my mind when I think about the future for my senior guy.

Also, I joined your Riding Light Facebook page. While I am not siginificantly overweight – size 12, large-boned and 5′8 – there are quite a few pounds around that love me so much they refuse to leave despite regular exercise and watching my diet. I’ve struggled my entire life with body image and thinking I am much larger than I actually am. The page and its members have been an inspiration. Focusing on the positives has changed so much for me in just one week! Thank you thank you thank you for creating it and for sharing all that you do. You’ve helped more than just my riding! :-)

  31. admin says:

Welcome, April! So glad the info is helping and supporting you!

  34. Debra Rose says:

    Hello Jane,

I have had the great fortune to be able to watch you perform in Wellington. You are without a doubt one of my favorite riders and authors. How would you approach a student that feels like a trainer in the area may be teaching me the wrong way to ride and train my horse? This is what I am hearing being said: 1. You ride off the inside rein because that is what some horses need….I was always taught that the inside rein is for flexion only and the outside rein is to direct the horse to move through their intire body from pole to hind quarters. Also that you need to recreate the horses trot because he was a TB off the track…Again I thought that you were suppose to work with the horses natural gaites. Third the horse is barely training level w/t/c and this trainer in 6months says that the rider/horse will be showing third level in 6months. I thought that each level is suppose to build upon the other and she also mentioned just skipping 2nd level showing at all. Can if you are able give me some feedback. I feel totally confused after reading many dressage books, dressage today etc.

    Thank you

Love your site. It was great seeing you on the infomercial this past week with Jeff Walker. Congrats on all your success.
My daughter started riding a few months ago and will be in her first horse show on 12/18. We love coming to your site and exploring. I spoke of you in a recent meeting with Gail at SMART Rider’s I am trying to help them raise funds for their new location here in Sarasota/Bradenton area.

I am new to dressage coming mostly from the western world and western pleasure. I’ve found your website and videos so helpful as I’m making the transition! There are many great horsemen out there, but very few who are also great teachers. Thanks so much…your influence is reaching further than you’ll ever know! ~Liz

    Hi Jane,
Thank you for the great, unselfish work that you are doing. So many of us (riders) all around the world are sadly mis-informed, and sometimes just the simplest statement/ suggestion/ explanation can be so valuable. I personally found your you tube videos very informative (which was also how I found your website), and gave me so much insight. I recently purchased a fabulous but quite green thoroughbred mare, and can’t wait to start our classical career. I’m feeling so confident that we’ll be able to do just as well as those flash warmbloods that are now so popular everywhere (even in little ‘ol Christchurch, New Zealand) :)
